ANGELS IN AMERICA, Tony Kushner's award-winning epic play, examines life, death, and politics in 1980s America. Kushner created his “gay fantasia on national themes" to explore hope and humor in the face of the AIDS crisis, fifteen years after the epidemic swept the globe. The terrifying death toll could well be seen as an indictment of the federal government's inaction and willful ignorance, which was rooted in stigma, lies, and fear. Kushner’s play resonates as clearly and relevantly today as when it was written twenty-five years ago. The achingly beautiful language weaves an ethereally complex yet starkly clear tapestry of a tragic, devastating time in American history.

From the Salem Gazette: "In the hands of a talented troupe like the Salem Theatre Company under director Catherine Bertrand, it still makes for powerful theater." Read the whole review here.
